Google won’t index sites that do not work on mobile devices

Google won’t index sites that do not work on mobile devices after July 5

if your website is not accessible using a mobile device, then Google will no longer index it and rank it.

responsive mobile friendly websites

Following this recent announcement from Google about indexing of only mobile friendly websites in their search results, I felt duty bound to recontact all my potential leads that do not currently have a mobile friendly website. Fortunately, many have taken my advice and had their website converted to a responsive design but there are still a few websites out there that are costing money to host but never going to be found on Google. This could be very damaging for those businesses.

We’ve been building mobile friendly websites since the mobile phone appeared in 2007. Businesses have had 17 years to get ready for this change so it comes as no surprise. Most modern design platform like WordPress and Wix offer mobile friendly website. Some old sites may be require a template upgrade while others will require a complete rebuild.

As of December 4, 2023 Google officially retired the Search Console’s Mobile Usability report, Mobile-Friendly Test tool and Mobile-Friendly Test API. The best way to check is to view your website on your mobile phone. Alternatively, contact us and we will check it for you.
